Burnet Rose
Known for its exceptionally thorny stems and delicate, single, cream-white flowers, the Burnet Rose is a beautiful and robust native British species. It typically forms a dense, bushy shrub, reaching 0.5-1.5m in height and spread, making it excellent for informal hedging or mass planting. The flowers, appearing in late spring to early summer, are followed by attractive, round, dark purple to black hips. It's incredibly hardy (H7) and tolerant of exposed, coastal conditions and poor, sandy soils, thriving in full sun. A valuable plant for wildlife, offering both shelter and food. Note that its synonym, Rosa spinosissima, is excluded.
