Rose 'Mutabilis'

One of the most extraordinary and beautiful of all roses, 'Mutabilis' is a China Rose that is a true conversation piece in the UK garden. Its single flowers open a pale apricot-yellow, turn to pink, and finally mature to a deep crimson. Since the plant is almost always in flower throughout the summer, it presents a multicoloured effect as if a cloud of butterflies has settled on the bush. It has a light, spicy fragrance. In the UK, it forms a large, airy shrub reaching about 1.5-2 metres. While it is reasonably hardy (H4), it thrives best in a warm, sheltered spot, such as against a south-facing wall, especially in colder regions. Its foliage is delicate and bronze-tinted when young. It is remarkably healthy and requires very little pruning. It is a perfect choice for those looking for something unique and constantly changing in their garden landscape.
