Rose 'Lady Emma Hamilton'
'Lady Emma Hamilton' is a distinct English Shrub Rose with an unusual and striking colour palette. Before the flowers open, the buds are a dark red with splashes of orange. Once open, they reveal chalice-shaped, tangerine-orange blooms with yellow-orange outer petals. This sits beautifully against the foliage, which is a dark bronze-green when young, eventually turning to a deep green. The fragrance is incredibly strong and fruity, with notes of pear, grape, and citrus. The shrub has a fairly upright but bushy habit, reaching about 1.2m in height. It is a healthy variety with good disease resistance and is fully hardy (H7) for UK conditions. It performs best in a sunny spot where the warmth can enhance the scent. It is an excellent choice for a mixed border, providing a warm splash of colour that harmonises well with purples and blues. Regular deadheading will ensure a constant supply of flowers from June through to the first frosts.
