China Rose
Rosa chinensis, the original China Rose, is a historically significant species that profoundly influenced modern rose breeding. It features delicate, single to semi-double flowers, typically in shades of pink, red, or white, which possess the unique quality of blooming repeatedly throughout the season until the first frosts. This characteristic, known as 'remontancy', was passed on to its descendants. It generally forms an upright, airy shrub, reaching 1-2m in height and spread, with reddish new growth. While not as cold-hardy as other species (H4), it thrives in sheltered positions in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil. It is a parent to many beloved garden roses and excellent for a more tender, old-fashioned feel.
