Flowering Currant 'Pulborough Scarlet'

Ribes sanguineum 'Pulborough Scarlet' is a popular deciduous shrub, celebrated in early spring for its dazzling display of pendulous clusters of rich scarlet-red flowers. Growing to an average height and spread of 2-3 metres, it makes a bold statement in UK gardens, particularly when other plants are still dormant. The bright green, lobed leaves emerge with the flowers and have a pleasant scent when crushed. Its early blooms are a vital early nectar source for bees. 'Pulborough Scarlet' is robust and easy to grow, thriving in full sun to partial shade and tolerating a wide range of well-drained soils. It's an excellent choice for an informal hedge or as a striking specimen plant, fully hardy across the UK.
