Mooli / Daikon Radish 'Mino Early'
'Mino Early' is a Japanese Daikon-type radish that produces long, white, tapered roots that can reach up to 35-40cm in length. The roots have a crisp, juicy texture and a mild, slightly peppery flavor that is much less intense than traditional small red radishes. It is exceptionally versatile in the kitchen, suitable for eating raw in salads, pickling, or adding to stir-fries and stews. In the UK, it is best sown from July to August as a 'second crop' after earlier vegetables have been harvested. Sowing too early in the spring often leads to the plants bolting due to increasing day length. 'Mino Early' is fast-growing and requires a deeply cultivated, stone-free soil to allow the long roots to develop without distortion. It is quite a hardy vegetable and can be harvested well into the autumn. It is a great choice for filling gaps in the late-season vegetable plot and provides a unique alternative to traditional autumn roots.
