English Oak

The English oak is an iconic, long-lived deciduous tree, culturally significant and native to the UK. It's a majestic species, capable of reaching 20-40 metres in height with a broad, spreading crown when mature. Its distinctive lobed leaves emerge in spring, turning yellow-brown in autumn before falling. Small, yellow-green catkins appear simultaneously with the leaves, followed by the familiar acorns. As a foundational species in many ecosystems, it supports a vast array of wildlife. The English oak is extremely hardy and adaptable, thriving in most well-drained to heavy soils and preferring full sun. It's a superb specimen tree for large gardens and parklands.
