Sessile Oak
The sessile oak is a magnificent, long-lived deciduous tree native to the UK, closely related to the common oak but distinguished by its stalkless (sessile) leaves and acorns. It forms a broad, majestic crown with deeply lobed, dark green leaves that turn russet in autumn. Inconspicuous catkins appear in spring. As a keystone species, it supports immense biodiversity. Extremely hardy, it prefers well-drained to moist, acidic to neutral soils and thrives in full sun. A superb choice for large estates, parks, and woodland settings, providing an imposing presence for generations.
