Pear 'Easter Beurré'
As its name suggests, this historic variety is one of the last pears to reach ripeness, often providing dessert fruit into the spring months. The fruit is large, roundish-obovate, with a greenish-yellow skin heavily marked with russet. When fully ripe, the flesh is buttery, melting, and exceptionally rich in flavour. This is a tree for the patient gardener, as the fruit must be harvested in late October and stored carefully in a cool, frost-free place until at least January or February. The tree has a vigorous, upright habit and produces clusters of white flowers in mid-spring. Due to its late-ripening nature, it absolutely requires a warm, sheltered site and plenty of sun to develop the fruit's complex sugars. It is not self-fertile and requires a pollination partner from group 4. A wonderful choice for extending the home-grown fruit season significantly.
