Firethorn 'Rouge'
Pyracantha 'Saphyr Rouge' (Cadrou) is a superb, disease-resistant variety of Firethorn, specifically bred for its high resistance to pyracantha scab and fireblight. This vigorous evergreen shrub makes a formidable security hedge thanks to its dense growth habit and sharp, stout thorns. In early summer, it is covered in a spectacular cloud of small, creamy-white flowers which are highly attractive to pollinators. These are followed in autumn by a prolific display of brilliant, deep red berries that persist into winter, providing a vital food source for birds like thrushes and waxwings. It is very adaptable and can be grown as a free-standing hedge, or trained against a wall or fence. It is fully hardy across the UK and thrives in most soil types and aspects. Annual pruning after flowering is recommended to keep the hedge in shape and ensure the berries are visible for a stunning winter display.
