Puschkinia
Puschkinia scilloides, often known as Striped Squill, is a charming and reliable tuberous perennial that heralds spring in UK gardens. It produces delicate spikes of pale blue to white, star-shaped flowers, each petal adorned with a distinctive darker blue stripe, giving them a unique striped appearance. These small, jewel-like blooms are held above narrow, glossy green leaves. Puschkinia is excellent for naturalising in lawns, rock gardens, or at the front of borders, where it can form impressive drifts over time. It is incredibly hardy and adaptable, thriving in full sun to partial shade and a range of well-drained soils. Its ethereal beauty provides a subtle yet enchanting early spring display and is a good source of nectar for early insects.
