Kudzu
Often considered invasive in some climates, Kudzu is a highly vigorous, deciduous, twining legume vine. In the UK, it can reach an astonishing 10-20m+ in height and spread. Half-hardy (H3), it needs a very warm, sheltered spot in full sun to thrive here. Produces fragrant, purple, pea-like flowers in late summer, followed by hairy seed pods. Grows extremely rapidly, quickly covering vast areas. While visually impressive, it requires careful management to prevent it from overwhelming other plants. Not for every garden.
Sun: Full sun.
Soil: Well-drained.
Hardiness: H3 — down to −5°C.
Flowering: Aug, Sep.
