Chinese Quince
The Chinese Quince is an elegant ornamental tree often celebrated for its beautiful, flaking bark, growing to 6-10m in height and spread. It produces large, fragrant, yellow, oval fruits that mature in autumn. While edible, they are woody and very tart, best used in preserves after cooking. Moderately hardy (H6) and preferring full sun and well-drained soil, it makes a stunning specimen tree for its bark, attractive dark green foliage, and lovely pink-flushed white flowers in April-May. It is more tolerant of a wider range of conditions than Cydonia oblonga.
Sun: Full sun.
Soil: Well-drained loam.
Hardiness: H6 — down to −20°C.
