Nectarine 'Fantasia'
'Fantasia' is one of the most reliable and high-quality nectarines for cultivation in the UK, especially if grown against a warm wall or under glass. It produces large, beautiful fruits with a bright yellow skin almost entirely covered by a dark red flush. The yellow flesh is firm, melting, and exceptionally sweet with a freestone pit. Harvesting usually occurs in late August. Like many nectarines, its pink spring blossoms are highly ornamental and appear early, meaning they often require protection from frost with fleece. The tree is moderately vigorous. While nectarines are more challenging than apples or pears in the British climate, 'Fantasia' offers good disease resistance. It is self-fertile, so a single tree can produce a healthy crop. To ensure the best flavour and fruit ripening, it must be planted in the sunniest, most sheltered position available in well-drained, rich soil. Avoid waterlogged ground to prevent root rot. hardiness is H4.
