Peach 'Redwing'

'Redwing' is a particularly reliable peach variety for the UK climate, known for its ability to produce good crops even in slightly cooler summers. The fruit is medium to large, with a beautiful deep red skin and pale, melting flesh that is exceptionally sweet and aromatic. One of its greatest assets is its stunning pink blossoms which appear early in the year, providing significant ornamental value. While it is hardy, the early blossom is susceptible to frost damage, so it is best grown as a fan against a south or west-facing wall or in a greenhouse. Like many peaches, it can be prone to peach leaf curl, so covering the tree with clear plastic from late winter until May is often recommended. It is self-fertile, so a single tree will produce fruit. Regular pruning is required to encourage new fruiting wood.
