Peach 'Avalon Pride'

'Avalon Pride' is a breakthrough cultivar for UK gardeners, discovered as a chance seedling in the United States. Its primary appeal is its significant resistance to Peach Leaf Curl, a fungal disease that plagues many other peach varieties in our damp climate. This makes it one of the most reliable peaches for outdoor cultivation in the UK. The fruit is large with a beautiful red flush over yellow skin, containing juicy, yellow, freestone flesh with a traditional sweet flavour. It ripens relatively early, usually in early to mid-August. The tree itself is moderately vigorous and produces beautiful pink blossoms in early spring which are highly ornamental, though they may require protection from late frosts. To get the best results, plant it against a warm south-facing wall or in a very sheltered sunny spot. It thrives in well-drained, moisture-retentive soil and is hardy to H4, though sheltered placement is key to fruit success.
