Fuji Cherry 'Kojo-no-mai'
'Kojo-no-mai' is a delightful, slow-growing dwarf cherry tree that is perfect for even the smallest UK gardens or for growing in large pots on a patio. Its name translates to "flight of the butterflies," referring to its delicate, pale-pink-to-white zig-zagging branches and blossoms. In early spring, before the leaves appear, the tree is covered in small, bell-shaped flowers that emerge from crimson buds. The leaves are small, deeply incised, and emerge a pale green, turning a spectacular fiery red and orange in the autumn. One of its most distinctive features is its curious "zig-zag" branch growth, which provides architectural interest throughout the winter months. It is very hardy (H6) and easy to grow, preferring a sunny, sheltered spot to protect the blossoms from late frosts. It requires very little pruning and naturally maintains a neat, shrubby-tree habit, rarely exceeding 2.5 metres in height. It thrives in most fertile, well-drained soils.
Sun: Full sun.
Soil: Any well-drained, fertile soil.
Hardiness: H6 — down to −20°C.
