Damson 'Merryweather'

'Merryweather' is arguably the best-known and most reliable damson variety for UK gardens. It produces heavy crops of large, dark blue-purple fruits with a distinctive tart flavour, making them superb for cooking, jams, and wine. The fruits ripen in late August to early September. This cultivar is self-fertile and forms a vigorous, upright tree that is very hardy and tolerant of a range of growing conditions. In spring, it is adorned with pretty white blossoms, which are a valuable nectar source for pollinators. Plant in full sun or partial shade in well-drained, fertile soil. A robust and rewarding fruit tree.
