Plum 'Jubileum'
'Jubileum' is a modern Swedish plum variety that is rapidly becoming a favourite in the UK due to its large, high-quality fruit and its extreme hardiness. It is a cross between 'Giant' and 'Yakima', resulting in a plum that is both visually impressive and delicious. The fruit is very large, oval, and has a reddish-purple skin. The flesh is yellow, firm, and juicy, with an excellent sweet flavour that makes it perfect for eating fresh, though it also performs well in cooking. One of its key advantages for UK gardeners is its late flowering time, which significantly reduces the risk of frost damage to the blossom. It is also self-fertile and a very heavy cropper, often producing fruit just a few years after planting. The tree has an upright, manageable habit and shows good resistance to common plum diseases. Ripening in mid-August, 'Jubileum' fills the gap between the early and late season varieties perfectly, providing a reliable and bountiful harvest of top-tier dessert plums.
