Gage 'Cambridge Gage'

Considered by many to be the finest-tasting gage, 'Cambridge Gage' is a reliable and delicious fruit tree for British gardens. It is very similar to the 'Old Greengage' but is more vigorous and a more consistent cropper. The fruit is small, round, and green-yellow with a light bloom. Its flesh is succulent, melting, and incredibly sweet with a complex, honeyed aroma. It is perfect for dessert use. The tree has a spreading habit and is moderately vigorous. It is partially self-fertile, but for a good crop, a pollination partner is recommended. It blossoms in mid-spring with a cloud of white flowers. Like all gages, it requires a warm, sunny, sheltered site to ensure the fruit ripens and to prevent the delicate skins from splitting in heavy rain. Hardy to H6, it thrives in most well-drained, fertile UK soils.
