Plum 'Blue Tit'
'Blue Tit' is a superb garden plum, celebrated for its compact growth and consistently heavy crops. It is an ideal selection for those who enjoy the flavour of 'Old Greengage' but require a tree that is easier to grow and more reliable. The fruit is medium-sized, round to oval, with a dark blue or purple skin covered in a light waxy bloom. Inside, the flesh is yellowish-green, incredibly juicy, and possesses a sweet, rich flavour that makes it one of the finest dessert plums available. Being self-fertile, it is a practical choice for the single-tree garden. It flowers slightly later than some other varieties, which helps protect the delicate blossom from the worst of the UK's early spring frosts. The tree is generally easy to manage and responds well to training as a fan against a sunny wall. It is fully hardy and thrives in most UK soils, provided there is good drainage and sufficient organic matter to support fruit production.
