Plum 'Blue Rock'
An excellent, often overlooked plum variety that is particularly well-suited to the UK climate. 'Blue Rock' produces medium-sized, oval fruits with a deep blue-black skin and a heavy blooms. The flesh is greenish-yellow, melting, and remarkably sweet, making it a superb choice for eating fresh from the tree. It is partially self-fertile, though it benefits from a pollination partner. The tree has a moderately vigorous, upright habit and is known for its reliable cropping. It blossoms in mid-spring with a profusion of white flowers that are attractive to pollinators. Hardy throughout most of the UK (RHS H6), it prefers a sheltered spot in full sun to ensure the sugars develop fully in the fruit. It thrives in well-drained, fertile soil and requires regular mulching in spring to maintain moisture. A great alternative to the more common 'Victoria' for those seeking a richer flavour profile.
