Flowering Cherry 'Accolade'
Prunus 'Accolade' is one of the most beloved early-flowering cherries in the UK. It is a small, deciduous tree with a graceful, spreading habit and slightly arching branches. In early to mid-spring, it is smothered in large, semi-double, shell-pink flowers that hang in clusters, providing a delicate and romantic display before the leaves fully emerge. The foliage is dark green through the summer, turning beautiful shades of orange and red in the autumn. This hybrid (P. sargentii x P. subhirtella) is noted for its vigor and reliability. It is fully hardy (H6) and thrives in any reasonable, well-drained garden soil. It is particularly well-suited for medium-sized gardens where its light, airy canopy won't dominate the space. For the most profuse flowering, it should be planted in a sunny, sheltered position to protect the blossoms from late frosts and heavy rain. It is a recipient of the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
