Japanese Woodland Primrose 'Snowdrop'
Primula sieboldii 'Snowdrop' is a delicate and enchanting perennial that is perfectly suited to the cool, temperate climate of the United Kingdom. This cultivar features pure white, deeply lobed flowers with fringed petals that resemble snowflakes, held in clusters above soft, crinkly, apple-green heart-shaped leaves. Flowering in mid to late spring, it brings a sense of airy lightness to woodland settings. Unlike many other primulas, P. sieboldii is deciduous and goes dormant in the summer, especially if the soil dries out, so it should be planted among ferns or hostas that can fill the gap. It is fully hardy (H5) and prefers a partially shaded spot with moisture-retentive, acidic to neutral soil. In the UK, it is a resilient performer provided it isn't swamped by more vigorous perennials. It spreads slowly via creeping rhizomes, eventually forming attractive drifts that are a highlight of the spring woodland floor.
Sun: Partial shade.
Soil: Moist but well-drained, neutral to acid soil.
