Auricula 'Forest Yellow'

Primula auricula 'Forest Yellow' is a robust and charming cultivar of the classic mountain cowslip, much loved in the UK for centuries. This evergreen perennial produces rosettes of thick, leathery, grey-green leaves which are often covered in a fine, floury 'farina'. In mid to late spring, it bears sturdy stems topped with umbels of beautiful, fragrant, funnel-shaped flowers in a rich, warm shade of golden yellow. Auriculas have a long history in British horticulture, often being grown in 'theatres' to protect their farina-covered flowers from rain. 'Forest Yellow' is a 'border' auricula, meaning it is tougher and more suited to general rock garden or border use than the more delicate 'show' varieties. It thrives in a cool, partially shaded spot with moist but well-drained soil rich in organic matter. It is fully hardy (H5) and provides a classic, nostalgic feel to any garden. Dividing the clumps every few years helps to maintain vigor and flowering potential.
