Star Creeper 'County Park'

This diminutive yet vigorous evergreen perennial is one of the best choices for filling gaps between paving stones or creating a moss-like carpet in moist areas. 'County Park' is a selected form noted for its particularly intense, deep violet-blue star-shaped flowers that appear in such profusion in summer that they can almost completely obscure the foliage. The tiny, rounded dark green leaves form a flat mat no more than 2cm tall, yet the plant is surprisingly tough and can withstand occasional light foot traffic. It spreads via rooting stems and thrives in reliably moist, fertile soil that does not dry out. While it is generally hardy (H4/H5) in most of the UK, it may require some protection from severe frosts in the coldest northern regions or exposed sites. Providing a brilliant splash of colour in rockeries or alpine troughs, it is also useful for softening the edges of ponds and damp pathways.
