Salad Burnet 'Little Angel'
'Little Angel' is a delightful, variegated cultivar of the traditional Salad Burnet. It is a compact, clump-forming perennial that produces a dense mound of exceptionally pretty, pinnate leaves that are grey-green with crisp, white-marbled edges. The foliage has a refreshing, mild cucumber flavour, making it a classic addition to salads, cold drinks, and herb butters. Unlike the species, 'Little Angel' is highly ornamental and works well at the front of a border or in a container. It is fully hardy (H6) and exceptionally easy to grow in the UK, thriving in any well-drained soil, including poor, chalky, or sandy types. It maintains its foliage well throughout the year in milder winters. In early summer, it produces small, inconspicuous, greenish-red flower heads on wiry stems. Removing these flower heads as they appear will ensure the plant focuses its energy on producing its decorative and edible leaves. Reaches about 20-30cm in height.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Well-drained, alkaline to neutral soil.
Hardiness: H6 — down to −20°C.
Flowering: May, Jun.
