Japanese Tassel Fern

The Japanese Tassel Fern, Polystichum polyblepharum, is an exquisite evergreen fern hailing from Japan and South Korea, highly prized for its glossy, dark green fronds. It forms a neat, arching clump up to 60cm tall and wide, creating a refined presence in the shaded garden. The young fronds emerge with a captivating golden-bronze hue, adorned with delicate, hair-like tassels, hence its common name. As they mature, they unfurl to a lustrous, deep green, providing year-round beauty. It prefers moist, well-drained, acidic to neutral soil and a sheltered, shaded position, making it perfect for woodland settings or shady borders.
