Giant Solomon's Seal

Polygonatum commutatum, the Giant Solomon's Seal, is a majestic perennial for shaded UK gardens, growing considerably taller than its relatives, reaching 1.2-1.8 metres. In May and June, robust, arching stems are adorned with pairs of creamy-white, bell-shaped flowers hanging beneath large, handsome leaves. These are followed by blue-black berries in autumn, adding further interest. It thrives in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil in partial to full shade. Fully hardy (RHS H6), its impressive size and architectural form make it a commanding presence in a woodland border or as a striking focal point. A truly grand plant for a generous shaded space.
