White-Striped Dwarf Bamboo
Pleioblastus variegatus, also known as White-Striped Dwarf Bamboo, is a charming, low-growing running bamboo perfect for ground cover, containers, or adding textural interest to borders. It features slender green leaves boldly variegated with creamy-white stripes, creating a bright and lively display. Reaching only up to 60cm in height, it forms a dense mat of foliage. While it is a runner, its shallow root system makes it relatively easy to manage, though containment is recommended in garden beds. It is fully hardy (H6) and surprisingly tolerant of various conditions, thriving in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. It rarely flowers, with its ornamental value lying in its distinctive variegated leaves, which provide year-round appeal. An excellent choice for brightening shady spots.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
