Green-Line Bamboo
A very elegant and distinctive bamboo, Pleioblastus linearis is characterized by its exceptionally long, narrow, grass-like leaves which give it a soft, wispy texture. It typically grows to a medium height, forming a thicket of slender, very straight culms. In the UK, it is often used as an informal, swaying screen or as a dramatic backdrop for other plants. Its habit is somewhat wandering, as it is a running species, so it is best used in larger areas or contained with a barrier. It is fully hardy (H5) and surprisingly wind-resistant, often found in coastal gardens where it can withstand salt-laden breezes. It prefers a sunny or partially shaded spot in moist soil. If it becomes too leggy, it can be thinned out or even mown to the ground occasionally to rejuvenate the foliage. Its fine-textured leaves ripple beautifully in even the slightest breeze.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
