Bamboo 'Tsuboi'
A charming, small to medium-sized bamboo that is perfect for those seeking a variegated groundcover or low hedge. 'Tsuboi' is distinguished by its narrow green leaves which are heavily striped with creamy white, giving the plant a bright, luminous appearance in shaded areas. It grows to approximately 1.5 to 2 metres in height with an upright but bushy habit. While it is a spreader, it is less aggressive than some other Pleioblastus species, though containment is still recommended in small borders. It is very hardy (H5) and easy to grow, tolerating a wide range of conditions including heavier clay soils, provided they do not waterlog. Pruning it back hard in early spring can encourage a flush of fresh, brightly variegated foliage. It is an excellent choice for stabilizing banks or for use in large containers on a patio where its foliage can be appreciated at eye level. village.
