Dwarf Green Stripe Bamboo

Pleioblastus chino is a graceful, running dwarf bamboo characterised by its slender, upright green canes and narrow, dark green leaves. It forms a dense, bushy clump, typically reaching an ultimate height of 1-2 metres with a spread of 1-2 metres or more if not contained. This bamboo is considered moderately vigorous and will spread via rhizomes, so containment is often desirable in smaller gardens. It exhibits good hardiness in the UK, rated H5, tolerating temperatures down to -15°C. 'Chino' performs well in partial shade but can also adapt to full sun, especially if the soil remains consistently moist. It prefers fertile, well-drained soil. Flowering is rare. Its delicate texture and evergreen nature make it an attractive option for ground cover, mass planting, or for adding a subtle, naturalistic feel to woodland gardens.
