Pea 'Meteor'
'Meteor' is a dwarf first-early pea that is specifically valued for its extreme hardiness and compact habit. Growing to only about 40-50cm tall, it is an ideal choice for exposed, windy gardens or for those with limited space, as it requires very little support compared to climbing varieties. It is one of the best varieties for autumn sowing (October or November) in the UK, as it can overwinter successfully to provide a very early crop in May. Alternatively, it can be sown in succession from February onwards. It produces small to medium-sized pods packed with sweet, tender peas. Because of its low profile, it is easily protected with cloches or fleece during severe weather. The plant is prolific and reliable, even in less-than-ideal soil conditions. To get the best results, ensure the soil is well-drained and not overly acidic. It is a great variety for children to grow due to its manageable size and quick results.
