Austrian Pine cultivar 'Pierrick Brégeon'
This is a delightful, dwarf selection of the Austrian Pine (Pinus nigra), often sold under the trade name Brepo. It forms a perfectly symmetrical, dense globe of stiff, dark green needles without the need for pruning. To the UK gardener, it offers a Mediterranean or alpine aesthetic in a compact form that is ideal for large pots, rock gardens, or the front of a border. It is exceptionally tough and hardy (H7), capable of withstanding salt-laden coastal winds, urban pollution, and poor soils. It grows very slowly, typically reaching only 1 metre in height and spread after ten years. This cultivar is grafted onto a stem (standard form) or grown as a low bush. It requires a position in full sun and thrives in any well-drained soil, including sandy or chalky types. Its architectural neatness and low-maintenance nature make it a prized specimen for modern, minimalist garden designs.
