Mountain Pine 'Winter Gold'
'Winter Gold' is a spectacular dwarf cultivar of the Mountain Pine, beloved for its dramatic seasonal colour change. During the summer months, the needles are a standard green, but as temperatures drop in autumn and winter, they transform into a brilliant, luminous golden yellow. This makes it a vital plant for adding warmth to the UK garden during the bleakest months. It has a slow-growing, bushy, and spreading habit, perfect for rockeries, slopes, or large pots. Like most Pinus mugo varieties, it is exceptionally tough and hardy, capable of withstanding exposed, windy sites and poor soils, provided they are well-drained. It produces small, attractive brown cones in its maturity. To maintain its compact shape, the 'candles' (new growth) can be pinched back in late spring. This conifer is an excellent low-maintenance choice for adding structural interest and vibrant winter light to any landscape.
