Dwarf Mountain Pine 'Benjamin'
Pinus mugo 'Benjamin' is an exceptional dwarf conifer that forms a very tight, compact mound of dark green needles. It is even more condensed than the standard 'Pumilio' or 'Mops', making it one of the finest pines for small spaces or containers. Each branch tip features a prominent white bud in winter, providing a subtle but attractive contrast against the deep green foliage. It is incredibly hardy (H7) and thrives in the most exposed, wind-swept positions, making it perfect for coastal or hilltop gardens in the UK. It requires full sun and very well-drained soil to thrive. This slow-growing pine is virtually maintenance-free and stays neat and tidy for decades. It is an excellent choice for adding a sense of permanence and rugged character to a rock garden or a modern trough display. Its dense habit also makes it very resistant to snow damage, as the branches do not easily pull apart.
