Japanese Red Pine
A picturesque evergreen conifer with a broad, rounded, often flat-topped crown and distinctive orange-red bark, particularly on the upper trunk and branches. It grows slowly to 15-25m tall with a spread of 6-10m. Fully hardy (H6), it prefers well-drained, acidic soil and full sun. Its needles are soft, bright green, and held in pairs. A valuable specimen tree for its aesthetic appeal, especially in winter, and widely used in Japanese gardens for its sculptural qualities. Provides good year-round structure and shelter.
