Swiss Stone Pine 'Nana'
Pinus cembra 'Nana' is a dwarf, slow-growing cultivar of the Swiss Stone Pine, perfect for smaller gardens, rockeries, or containers where space is limited. It forms a dense, broadly conical or globose shrub, eventually reaching an ultimate height of 1-2m and a spread of 0.8-1.5m. Its soft, relatively short, dark green needles are held in bundles of five, creating a fine texture. This very hardy pine thrives in full sun and prefers well-drained, moist, slightly acidic to neutral soil. It is exceptionally hardy in the UK (H7) and long-lived. This compact form offers year-round beauty and robustness, making it an excellent choice for adding a touch of alpine character to the garden. It is largely maintenance free.
