Swiss Stone Pine
The Swiss Stone Pine is a slow-growing, very hardy evergreen conifer, forming a dense, broadly conical to columnar shape with attractive, long, dark green needles held in bundles of five, often with a subtle bluish tinge. It's renowned for its resilience in cold, exposed conditions. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerating a range of pH levels. While its 'flowers' are inconspicuous, it produces interesting, ovoid cones that are initially violet-purple, maturing to brown, often containing edible seeds (pine nuts). A superb specimen tree for exposed sites or larger gardens, providing excellent year-round structure and texture.
