Norway Spruce 'Little Gem'
A delightful miniature conifer that originated as a 'witches' broom' on a Norway Spruce. 'Little Gem' forms a very dense, flat-topped globe of tiny, bright green needles. It is exceptionally slow-growing, typically only adding a few centimetres of growth each year, making it perfect for troughs, rock gardens, or small patio containers. It provides a neat, structural presence and requires zero pruning to maintain its tidy shape. In spring, the new growth emerges as a slightly lighter green, providing a subtle two-tone effect. It is a robust and fully hardy plant, coping well with the UK's varied climate, though it prefers a site that doesn't get too dry in summer. It thrives in moist but well-drained, slightly acidic soil. This plant is a testament to the diversity of conifers, offering the ruggedness of the forest giant in a form small enough for the most modest urban garden.
