Norway Spruce 'Gold Drift'
'Gold Drift' is a spectacular and unusual cultivar of the traditional Norway Spruce. It possesses a naturally weeping or prostrate habit, but is often staked when young to create a cascading vertical specimen. Its primary draw is the brilliant, lemon-yellow colour of its needles, which do not burn in the sun like some other golden conifers. If left to grow along the ground, it creates a luminous golden carpet; if trained upwards, it forms a graceful, pendulous "waterfall" of foliage. It is fully hardy (H7) and prefers moist but well-drained, slightly acidic soil. This plant provides year-round colour and contrast, especially effective when planted against a dark green backdrop or near water features. While slow-growing, it eventually becomes a significant and breathtaking feature in the garden. It is highly resistant to most pests and diseases common to spruces.
