Bamboo 'Huangwenzhu Inversa'

A spectacular timber bamboo known for its large-diameter canes and striking coloration. This cultivar features bright yellow culms with a distinct green stripe in the sulcus groove, making it a dramatic focal point in UK gardens. It is exceptionally fast-growing and can reach heights of 8 metres or more in the right conditions. While hardy to H5, its large canes can be susceptible to wind damage, so a sheltered spot is essential. It has a running habit, typically requiring a root barrier to prevent unwanted spread. The foliage is lush and deep green, providing a dense canopy. Like most Phyllostachys, it prefers a fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. It excels as a specimen plant where its architecture can be fully appreciated. Flowering is exceedingly rare and often signifies the end of the plant's life cycle. In the UK, it performs best in regions with warmer summers to ripen the new wood.

Sun: Full sun to partial shade.

Soil: Fertile, well-drained loam.
