Dwarf Bamboo Phyllostachys

One of the smallest species within the Phyllostachys genus, P. humilis is an excellent choice for gardeners who want the classic look of a timber bamboo but have limited space. It usually grows to about 3-4 metres in height and has a very upright, dense habit. The culms are green, turning a bit more yellow-green as they age. It is a runner, but its slower growth and smaller stature make it much easier to manage than its larger relatives. It is exceptionally hardy (H6) and is one of the best bamboos for forming a dense, medium-height hedge or screen in a hurry. It is very wind-tolerant and thrives in a wide range of conditions. It responds very well to pruning, allowing it to be kept at a specific height or shape. It prefers a sunny spot and regular watering during dry periods, making it a versatile and dependable addition to almost any UK garden. village.
