Slender Temple Bamboo

Phyllostachys decora, known as Slender Temple Bamboo, is a beautiful running bamboo recognised for its lustrous, olive-green culms that often develop a reddish-purple flush in sun, and its relatively broad, dark green leaves. It has an attractive, slightly arching habit, forming graceful clumps when contained. This vigorous species can reach an ultimate height of 4-6 metres with a wide spread if not restricted. It is hardy in the UK, rated H5, tolerating temperatures down to -15°C. 'Decora' thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers fertile, well-drained, and consistently moist soil. Flowering is infrequent and not a significant feature. Its elegant foliage and attractive culms make it an excellent choice for screening, hedging, or as a handsome specimen plant, provided its running habit is managed.
