Bamboo 'Lama Temple'
A distinctive cultivar of the yellow-groove bamboo that stands out for its intensely bright, golden-yellow canes. Like the species, it often exhibits the characteristic 'zig-zag' growth at the base of some culms. This is an extremely hardy runner (H6), making it one of the best choices for colder or more exposed UK gardens. The vibrant yellow canes are often flushed with red when young if exposed to direct sunlight, providing extra seasonal interest. It grows upright to about 4-5 metres and produces a dense canopy of rich green leaves. It makes an excellent, sound-muffling screen or a bold architectural specimen. To maintain the best cane colour, it is recommended to thin out older, duller canes every few years. It needs a root barrier if planted in a small garden to control its spread. It is drought-tolerant once established but prefers consistent moisture for the best growth rates.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Moist but well-drained loam.
Hardiness: H6 — down to −20°C.
