Bamboo 'Koi'
Phyllostachys aurea 'Koi' is a highly distinctive and sought-after cultivar of bamboo, known for its strikingly variegated culms that display irregular splashes of green and yellow, creating a unique, almost marbled effect resembling the markings of Koi carp. This running bamboo, while beautiful, requires vigilant containment with a robust root barrier or cultivation in a very large, sturdy pot to prevent its spread in UK gardens. It forms an upright, dense clump, perfect for a specimen plant where its colourful canes can be admired. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers fertile, well-drained soil. The colouration is often more pronounced in brighter light conditions.
