Cape Fuchsia 'Moonraker'
Phygelius x rectus 'Moonraker' is an elegant semi-evergreen perennial that brings a touch of exotic flair to the garden. It produces tall, arching stems with pendant, trumpet-shaped flowers in a soft, pale creamy-yellow. These blooms are produced in abundance throughout the summer and into autumn, providing a long-lasting display. Growing to around 1 metre in height, it has an upright but slightly suckering habit and dark green, ovate leaves. While its common name is 'Cape Fuchsia', it is not actually a fuchsia, although its flowers have a similar nodding grace. It is a fantastic plant for a sunny, sheltered border and is especially effective when planted where its long-season blooms can be seen up close. It thrives in a well-drained, fertile soil in full sun. In colder areas of the UK, it may be cut back to the ground by frost but will usually resprout from the base in spring (H4). It is highly attractive to bees and provides a wonderful, subtle colour that blends well with many other garden plants.
