Creeping Phlox 'Blue Ridge'
Phlox stolonifera 'Blue Ridge' is a beautiful, woodland-dwelling perennial that provides a lush carpet of evergreen foliage. In late spring and early summer, it is covered with clusters of large, fragrant, clear-blue flowers that sit slightly above the foliage on short stems. Unlike its sun-loving cousin P. subulata, this species thrives in the dappled shade of a woodland garden or on the north side of a house. It spreads via creeping runners (stolons), quickly forming a dense, weed-proof mat. The leaves are smooth and oval, maintaining a healthy green throughout the year. It is fully hardy in the UK and prefers a soil that is rich in organic matter and stays consistently moist. This phlox is perfect for naturalistic planting schemes and provides a significant splash of colour just as the early spring bulbs are fading. It is a recipient of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, a testament to its reliability and performance in British conditions.
