Mock Orange 'Manteau dHermine'

Philadelphus 'Manteau d'Hermine' is a dwarf, deciduous Mock Orange variety that is ideal for low, informal hedging where space is at a premium. Despite its small stature, it produces an abundance of creamy-white, double flowers in early summer that carry a heavy, citrus-like perfume, filling the air on warm June evenings. The foliage consists of small, ovate, dark green leaves that form a neat, dense thicket. Its habit is naturally compact and somewhat arching, creating a soft silhouette for garden dividers or path edgings. It is a very hardy plant that is easy to grow in the UK, tolerating most soil types as long as they are well-drained. To Ensure a good display of flowers the following year, it should be pruned immediately after flowering by cutting back the flowered stems to a strong bud or a young side shoot. It performs best in full sun but can manage in light dappled shade, though the scent and flower quantity may be reduced.

Sun: Full sun to partial shade.

Soil: Any well-drained soil.

Hardiness: H6 — down to −20°C.

Flowering: Jun, Jul.
